Trauma Therapy

With trauma, every day can be a tightrope walk of managing overwhelming anxiety and confronting haunting traumatic memories. Mornings might bring a sense of dread, unsure of triggers that might set off anxiety spirals. Social interactions become a source of anxiety, and nights transform into battlegrounds of insomnia and nightmares.

It might feel like something you will never find relief from, but seeking support through therapy can help in navigating your way towards a place of calm and understanding. At Comma Co., I help my clients understand their symptoms and process their experiences so they can get back to feeling like themselves.

Some people know they have past experiences they need to work through but think, “I’ve had hard times but I’ve never experienced real trauma.” The thing is, it’s not about what kind of trauma you experienced, but how your brain interpreted that painful past experience.

Some Examples of Traumatic Events:

  • Car Accident

  • Abandonment/neglect

  • Childbirth

  • Illness (chronic, terminal)

  • Natural disasters

  • Death of a loved one

  • Abuse (physical, sexual, emotional)

  • Financial struggles

  • Victim of/witnessing a crime

  • Divorce

  • Military combat

  • Bullying

  • Racism

  • Hospitalization

  • Domestic violence

Common Symptoms:

  • Avoidance

  • Hypervigilance

  • Nightmares

  • Increased heart rate

  • Being easily startled or frightened.

  • Always being on guard for danger

  • Self-destructive behavior, such as drinking too much or driving too fast

  • Trouble sleeping or focusing

  • Irritability, angry outbursts or aggressive behavior

  • Overwhelming guilt or shame

To help my clients, I empower them with education on what happens in the brain and body that causes their symptoms, share skills that explain how to relax in everyday activities when triggered, and walk them through processing the experiences they feel like they will never get over. I take a holistic approach, incorporating talk therapy and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). ART is an evidenced based treatment that uses imagery and rapid eye movements to help people heal faster.
